After appearing in seven of the 10 games in 2022 as a true freshman, JR Wilson is ready to take a big leap in his development and transform into a centerpiece of the Virginia football team’s offense.
For a Cavaliers team that struggled to produce explosive plays last fall, creating just 33 plays of 20+ yards in their 10 games, finding ways to blow defenses open and stretch the field is a necessity going into 2023. Standing at 6’4″ and weighing 219 pounds, Wilson has the potential to be a big play receiver for Virginia.
Wilson hails from Brooklyn, NY, where he attended Canarsie High School. The sophomore was a three-star recruit coming out of Canarsie, and garnered offers from Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and others along with Virginia. That came despite an injury that sidelined him for the rest of the year in the spring of 2021 when his team was playing its delayed fall schedule. The big receiver signed his national letter of intent to play for the Hoos in December of 2021.
