When the Virginia football team opens preseason camp at the end of July, the race to kickoff will begin. The Hoos open against Richmond on Saturday, August 31 at Scott Stadium at 6 p.m.
Position battles will be in play over the month of preparation. Among the top questions: starter at quarterback, use of new faces at defensive back, and the two deep on the offensive line. Positions that may not have many questions, however, are the specialists.
That’s because Virginia features multiple veterans at punter, kicker, and long snapper entering the season. Those players could play a big role in whether the Hoos can get past three wins in year three of the Tony Elliott era.
