A weekend celebrating a birthday in Las Vegas usually ends in joy or disaster based on the results on the casino floor. For the Colandrea family it all came down to a phone call.
“We knew that going to Vegas, his news was either going to allow us to have a great time or it was going to allow us to not have a great time,” said Cameran Colandrea, who was in Las Vegas to celebrate her husband’s birthday.
While the Colandreas and friends anxiously enjoyed their time on the Las Vegas Strip, two time zones away their son Anthony was waiting on the answer to a question Lady Luck could not answer. For the last year, Virginia sophomore Anthony Colandrea has been engulfed in a quarterback battle with incumbent veteran Tony Muskett in the race to be the Cavaliers’ signal caller for the season opener against Richmond.
Each started six games last season and brought their own chips to the table. Virginia coach Tony Elliott paid close attention to the cards as they were dealt, considering factors like Colandrea and Muskett’s performance last season, spring practice, fall camp, and even opinions in the locker room.
