When Virginia running back Kobe Pace turned and saw nothing but green grass, it took him by surprise for a moment.
“Kind of shocked me a little bit because I’m used to in practice having all my teammates on defense right there swarming,” Pace said.
For the first time Saturday night, Virginia was behind the chains late in the first quarter after Anthony Colandrea was sacked when his own offensive lineman Ty Furnish was pushed back into him. It was the first bit of adversity the offense had to face, already up 17-0 on Richmond after three straight possessions ended with a score.
