Virginia dove into the 2024 season with a strong performance at Scott Stadium on Saturday. The Hoos took the lead on their first drive of the game and never trailed in a 34-13 win against Richmond.
The statistics showed a balanced effort. UVA produced 297 passing yards and 200 rushing yards with Anthony Colandrea and Kobe Pace leading those categories. Receiver Malachi Fields secured his first career 100-yard receiving game with exactly 100 yards on 5 catches. The Cavaliers produced touchdown plays of 35, 57, 3, and 7 yards as part of their scoring total.
Defensively, the Hoos allowed only 257 total yards and recovered 1 fumble. They had 7 tackles for loss with 1 sack in addition to 2 quarterback hurries and 2 pass breakups. The safety duo of Jonas Sanker and Antonio Clary led the way with 8 tackles each.
