The conditions were less then ideal when Virginia emerged back onto the field after a nearly 2.5 hour weather delay with a steady downpour over Scott Stadium. But still the occasion was ripe for Charlottesville native Malachi Fields to lift the few fans braving the elements out of their seats.
“Still got a game to play, still got plays to make,” Fields said. “So make the most of each opportunity.”
With about a minute showing on the clock in the first half of what became a 34-13 win against Richmond, quarterback Anthony Colandrea slung a ball deep towards the UVA sideline. On the other end was a diving Fields, hovering horizontally above the field making a catch that took his coach back to watching a young former All-ACC receiver.
