WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – As early as Tuesday this week, Tony Elliott kept repeating the phrase “program win” as Virginia headed into its ACC opener against Wake Forest.
A chance to start 2-0 for the first time under Elliott, to win an ACC opener for the first time since 2020, to beat Wake Forest for the first time since 2007 and in Winston-Salem for the first time since 2002. It’s easy to see why the game could be labeled as a big moment for the program in Elliott’s third season even though it’s just Week 2 of the season.
Through a roller coaster of emotions, Virginia got that “program win” 31-30 over Wake Forest.
