As long as Virginia football fans have waited, Chris Tyree counted the days till he raced down the sideline at Scott Stadium for a big play.
The moment seemed like it finally arrived for the Notre Dame transfer in a primetime game against Maryland, when Tyree received a short pass and turned it into a 65-yard touchdown. Fans saw for the first time the elite speed so many had talked about with Tyree outrunning multiple Terrapin defenders with ease on his way to the end zone.
Three games in, Tyree at last had the type of play he envisioned wearing the orange and blue. Well, until he realized the touchdown was wiped off the board by a holding call.
“When I turned around and the ref told me,” Tyree said. “I thought it was a touchdown through and through.”
