The Virginia football team posted a 3-1 record through the first 1/3rd of its season. Wins counted against Richmond, Wake Forest, and Coastal Carolina, the latter two on the road, while the loss came to Maryland at home. With the Hoos exiting an open date on the schedule, it’s a good time for a quick Pro Football Focus checkpoint.

The highest grade overall in PFF this season was against Coastal Carolina, an 80.9 mark that represents the best of the Tony Elliott era against Football Bowl Subdivision teams. The only grade better in general was an 85.3 against William & Mary in 2023.

For offense, the best performance also came against CC with a 79.1. That’s the highest grade of the Elliott era on that side of the ball. For defense, a 75.2 against Richmond is the highest of the season. The Richmond game in 2022 (80.5), the W&M game in 2023 (77.5), and the Miami game in 2022 (75.7) are the only grades that are higher. For special teams, a 77.0 against Maryland is the top mark of the season. The only grade in the Elliott era that was higher came against Pittsburgh in 2022 (82.5).
