The Dickson family in Connecticut is unquestionably familiar with lacrosse as they’ve watched four siblings play at the college level over the past dozen years. David and Marshall suited up at Bucknell, Amie competed at Cornell, and Xander is in his final month with Virginia as it tries to make another run at a National Championship.

The Dicksons aren’t unfamiliar with record-chasing either. David set a single-season assists record with 48 in 2013 for Bucknell and wrapped up his college career with 132 assists, which stood third in program history at the time. Amie posted 72 points for Cornell in 2017, the second highest single season total in school history at the time, and she finished her career as one of just three players in program history to be ranked in the top three in draw controls and assists.

So when Xander Dickson, the baby of the quartet, etched his name in the Virginia history books this past weekend, the milestone wasn’t lost on anyone. Dickson tallied 2 goals in UVA’s 17-8 win in its NCAA Tournament opener against Richmond. The first placed the senior alone atop the program’s record book for goals in a single season. At 58 and counting, he overtook Doug Knight’s 1996 season and 27-year-old record of 56 goals.

“Afterwards, I had a moment with my dad and people close to me that were just like it’s crazy man, you’ve come a long way. My brothers are like there’s been a lot of good players there, how is our little brother sitting on top with that record right now but it was cool for a little bit,” Dickson said.
