Only one spot in the Charlottesville area could provide so much history in a matter of seconds and it’s not the Rotunda on Grounds at the University of Virginia or even Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. A seat atop Klöckner Stadium gives you a view to the field below, but also sight of left field at Disharoon Park.

In a minute span while sitting at Klöckner you heard the cheers from The Dish as Henry Ford stamped what might be the greatest freshman season in program history. Then as you swivel back even louder cheers down below as attack man Payton Cormier etched his name in the NCAA record books.

A first year just starting to write his story in a Virginia uniform and a sixth-year senior getting ready to put the pen down on his novel. A Charlottesville kid raised in the shadows of Disharoon Park and a Canadian import who made the city his home. The dichotomy of Ford and Cormier’s stories could not be further apart, but one minute brought them together for a historic moment in UVA Athletics.
