It’s time for another round of mailbag questions in the Virginia Q&A feature, which runs as part of our Fan Friday content on TheSabre.com. There were a lot of questions this week so we’ll split it up in the next two editions.

With spring sports winding down and UVA kickoff a little more than 100 days away, let’s tackle some football, baseball, and lacrosse questions this week. Then there will be a basketball only version next Friday.

Why all the talk about establishing the running game when you have exceptional talent at WR – I think we’ll be watching Wicks and Davis on Sundays for 10 years, and KT and Kemp and Fields can play too – and the O-Line is starting from scratch? ~ EC Hoo

I think EC Hoo nails what a lot of Virginia fans are thinking. It’s the “if it ain’t broke” angle for UVA’s offense, which put up impressive numbers in 2021. Brennan Armstrong and Dontayvion Wicks set school records plus the Hoos finished second nationally in passing offense and 21st in scoring offense. This isn’t just a Virginia thing by the way as many of the nation’s top passing teams were among the leading scorers as well (Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Alabama, Notre Dame, Western Kentucky, and Nevada just to name a few).

If that worked so well, why change it too much? Armstrong answered it like this: “I always tell them what we did last year, there’s a lot of things that are new and I was like well, it has to be new. What we did last year was 6-6 guys. We’re all trying to buy into that. It’s like whether or not we put up these numbers, we were 6-6 so something’s got to change and we’ve just got to buy into that so it pushes us forward, keeps moving forward and hopefully get more wins on the board.”
