If Strong had stayed at Louisville he’d probably have
a Natty by now. Recruited the Heisman QB from Boynton Beach Florida to Louisville. Went for Texas big money a paid the price a la Shaka Smart.Strong coached TeBow & another Natty QB at Florida. Vince Young saved Mac’s

No one is leaving the ACC unless they want to give up a ton of money form many years to come.

It's a tough one, as we're more aware of legitimate mental health issues
now. But I also instantly flashed back to the picture of Kerri Strug doing the vault on one leg to help get team gold (I may be embellishing here, granted). If nothing else, makes me appreciate more what she did. I'm sure many of us have quit competing on a day or two (I know I have and rather recently). I try to learn from that.

I'm not being stubborn, I'm sharing my opinion with you. I'm not here
to change your mind or have my mind changed. It's all just opinions being shared, nothing more, really. The US has the deepest pool of talent in the world, I don't feel last second additions were needed. They could have found other guys to fill needs who had the proper training and rest leading into the Olympics. If you think those three will put the US over the top, that's cool.

We weren't relative Mack's last several years; he got lazy & didn't work
Decision was made to fire him, and deal made to hire a high profile coach. Billie Powers humped the puppy on that one by going back on his word. High profile coaches don't want to work for liars. We lost a great coach and a genius AD before they were officially hired. Then Powers decided to establish his "legacy" by hiring the first black head football coach and black head basketball coach. Can you say "hump the puppy", boys & girls? That resulted in costing certain alums over $20 million when he lied. Unhappy BMD want heads to roll.

Red McCombs was right about Charlie and not only did we know it, but the coaching community knew it. Charlie was a nice guy, but couldn't get quality assistants to work for him because they knew he would fail. Charlie was never comfortable with the good ole boy network that is Texas HS Coaches Association. He couldn't recruit. Then, he stupidly recruited Florida. I told people that the minority players from Florida are totally different from minority players from Texas. Results? Divided locker room and assistants looking to bail.

We made a total mistake on Tom Herman, member of MENSA and arrogant asshole. What HS coaches Charlie didn't ignore, Herman pissed off. You do not go into the home of a 5 star recruit, much less a four generation Horn, and talk down to his parents and piss them off. Results, kids are at Alabama and took Herman's star QB commitment with them. Then Herman goes into the home of the country's #1 QB and thoroughly pisses off the parents, both of whom are Texas Exes. We already have had John Mackovic thanks to Willie Cunningham.

The only real good all that money does is when the checkbooks get put away until changes are made.

We now have a Chairman of BOR, President, and AD, all of whom understand and are doing a really great job, particularly considering the shit show they inherited. I don't want to go to the SEC, but after all these years, we are finally getting P5 down to a few that know what they are doing and won't grab their ankles every time the conference commissioner calls. NCAA won't be around much longer.

FWIW, DKR & Coach Broyles proposed this in the late 60s/early 70s.

I don’t know why you’re being so obstinate about this. Every other nation h
has a national team that comes together on a regular basis and competes as a team in more than just the Olympics and World Champion. They have continuity, change happens gradually generally and players become accustomed to playing with each other as a team over the years. That’s how international soccer works. We choose to follow a different course in men’s basketball , far more ad hoc in selecting team rosters.

And then because of NBA schedules they have a little time to turn that collection of individuals into a team before the Olympics start. I am hoping that better cohesion comes on over the next couple of games

The three added late didn't need to happen. The final roster needed a
deadline date, so the whole team had proper time to prepare. It seems like more thought was put into collecting the most talent instead of assembling the best team. The US faced the same decision as every other country, but with a far deeper talent pool than the rest of the world. I'm trying to figure out why you're giving the US a pass for something everyone else is facing, as well.

Does 3-and-D (the D part of which seems less proven to this point) merit
a lottery pick? The original post was talking about him moving into that category. I would think that teams would want more than that out of a pick that high. Confession - - I'm far from an NBA expert.

I think he demonstrated enough shooting proficiency, coupled with his length, to understand why someone would take a chance on him; and I think he has a shot to make it. I hope he turns out to be an All-Star. But notions of lottery pick do not strike me as being based on actual, demonstrated, in-game performance to-date.

Packers release Bortles, Benkert closer to making the team
Three QBs now: Rodgers, Love, Benkert. So, if they keep three, he's in unless they sign someone else.

EDIT: They won't necessarily keep three. If they only go with two, Benkert is obviously gone.

Tough one. I don't think a gymnast thinking it isn't their day is new
and coaches will swap folks out if something is amiss--- if she had been the 3rd ranked gymnast on team Belgium, the world wouldn't notice.

Given her track record of success/mental toughness, as well as her relative maturity as a sport veteran, I have to give her the benefit of the doubt here and say she did the right thing.

That said, I don't think a Wheaties box is in her near future!

Wow, it sounds like you have a problem. I don’t have any problem with how t
how they managed it. What you call a strategy is simply reality. This year‘s NBA season ran right up until the start of the Olympics. And the other reality is that NBA players of the caliber that you want on the team are not going to give multi year commitments to invest significant time in their off-seasons, every year, to playing on a national team. It’s not part of our culture that makes the national team in basketball so important, and it’s logistically very difficult. And these guys make a ton of money and already play very long seasons.
If it will help you to sleep better at night feel free to call it an excuse. It’s not, it’s a reason why we don’t have a cohesive team and our competition does. Yes it’s choices, and this is the consequence of such choices.

The vast majority of players are local
The minority are from out of the area. The players at NC St, Duke, VT all played locally--often at another high school--before going to Miller. I wish that there was an explanation as simple as where they are from.

Miller has become the hub for the best local players. The teams at STAB, Covenant, and the public high schools have all taken a step back as they've stepped forward.

Neither Clemson or FSU expands the SEC's territory....
And both would get strong resistance from long time SEC members. Its not a lock the SEC wants either. Plus both would have to pay their media rights to the ACC for 15 years, which is no small chunk of change.

With the exception of Clem, top recruits are going elsewhere and will keep doing so. FSU and Clem can't afford to fall behind ... it will sink their schools. I predict Clem will make a break for it and FSU will follow.

I think 5 years is plenty
How do you not rank a coach who is 0-13 vs VaTech and outscored 56-1 by a coach hired after her DEAD LAST? Coaches at Clemson and Duke starting after her make the NCAA tournament - and we can’t make the ACCs.
Hardin is bottom of the barrel and is abusive and tyrannical. How can she possibly be renewed. Carla is not to blame for hiring her - but needs to be called out loudly for this.
