And why shouldn't we count Hunter?
He gets most of his minutes now at the 4 and gets a lot of his scoring inside. Certainly more than Omari Spellman who is 'frontcourt player averaging 12 pts+ by shooting 3-pointers'.

Refs do believe in justice, in my opinion
They know their job involves a lot of judgment calls, and I think the best ones try to make sure those calls tend to negate any advantage gained by illegal play. It is a human job.

I think sometimes that can mean if contact was illegal but not sufficient to normally result in a foul, they will tend to see if an advantage was obtained before deciding (a classic example is when a defender inadvertently runs into/over a ballhandler in the backcourt - if the ballhandler trips and falls the whistle is blown, but if he keeps his balance you will see it usually be a play on). When this happens on shot attempts, fans and announcers get apoplectic, but I don't mind actually. It seems to me that a good way to determine if advantage was obtained is if the other team had a negative result directly consequent to the illegal action (ball going out of bounds, missed shot, etc.). That is a far more accurate way to determine if advantage was obtained than precognition.

Will be getting some insight into how Williams operates soon...
This will be Williams first big coaching decision. How much does she value the women's basketball program and want to return it to competitive status both in the ACC and NCAA championship levels? Does Boyle's contract have an automatic extension if she takes the team to the NCAAs this year? She is on the last year of her contract, I believe. You can't win without recruiting quality talent and she has not proven to be a very good recruiter. If the team gets into the NCAA field, do you extend her contract (if it isn't automatically extended)? If so for how long? I believe the fact that she is at the end of her contract probably hampered recruiting this year and if her contract is just extended a year or two, it will continue to suffer. You can win w/o a roster of five stars if you can develop players but player development hasn't been apparent at UVA for many years going back to the Ryan reign.
You have the number one recruit in 2019 in UVA's backyard. Will she even consider UVA with Boyle still as coach? Would she consider UVA if Tim Taylor were the coach? Would Williams take this into consideration? Heard a recent interview with Tim Taylor in which he said he wasn't looking for a head coaching position at this point of his life. Doesn't mean he wouldn't be interested if the position came open. I have mixed feelings on whether this would be the right move or not. I like Taylor and think he's a good coach--has excelled everywhere he's been. Could he put a high quality coaching staff together? Williams has a women's basketball background. Have to believe she has deep ties into the profession and probably already has a short list of prospective coaches if needed. Having her at UVA could be a strong pull for a prospective coach and their staff. I think the current staff are quality people and have given it their best shot. I think they have done everything asked of them--making sure players succeeded in the classroom, were active in the community, developed into high character young adults--except win consistently enough to be competitive at the conference and NCAA levels. I think after seven years, it is time to move in another direction. If Williams wants all of UVA's teams to be vying for championships at the conference and NCAA levels, then I think she has to make a change in leadership of the women's basketball program.

I went to that horrible Gator Bowl. At end we were chanting “No safety!”
A deep fog hung over the field (I think that’s why Blundin’s NCAA leading no-interception streak came to an end). Everyone who drove from Virginia was despondent that an option QB had started passing like Dan Marino against us. Except for the Hokie fan two sections over (cockroaches are everywhere) from Jacksonville who had come just to boo Virginia. Before that VT didn’t matter much wrt my UVA fandom. After that I all but expected the plane years later.

That is indicative of a gift of at least $6,000.000, which is fantastic!
And a nice feather in the cap for CW and company, who are going to need to string together a bunch of big gifts to put a dent in the football infrastructure needs.

For those that were at the games this past weekend, how hard were
McGarry and Abbott throwing? It seemed like Sperling could possibly be the dominant hard throwing starter we've been trying to put out there since Connor Jones. Murdock was looking that way until he was hurt. Sperling's consistency seemed much better. Is his velocity still consistent low to mid 90s?

Navy was 5-0 coming out of the Air Force game
Over the next three weeks injuries started to take a toll. Still, they lost to a strong Memphis team, on the road, by only 30-27.

The next week Navy faced UCF in Annapolis. The Middies lost 31-21, but the game was close going deep into the 4th Q. Navy lost itheir starting QB in the 3rd quarter and the offense was never the same. UCF's coach Scott Frost said following the game, "We're glad and lucky to get out of here with a win."

Navy's next game was on the road against Temple and lost 34-26 and without the starting QB and a number of other key starters. After a win over SMU, Navy went into South Bend losing to ND by just 24-17. The Middies finish the season losing to Houston 24-14 and Army by 1 point.

The Navy game was among UCF's closest games of the year (along with South Florida, Memphis, and SMU). If Navy's QB didn't go down, the Middies had a great shot to win that game and change the whole complexion of UCF's season. Also, outside of Memphis losing to UCF twice, no other team during the regular season played the Tigers as tough/close than Navy.

So this mindset and narrative that UVA should just walk into the Navy/Marine Memorial Stadium and defeat a 6-6 Middies squad or be closely competitive because we are a Power 5 program just doesn't match up to reality from my view. Navy has a proven system that was one year removed from beating Notre Dame and took out Houston when the Cougars were #6 nationally, with talk of a possible playoff berth after taking out OU.

Navy came into the bowl game as healthy as they had been since starting 5-0 and nearly beating Memphis on the road. That is the team UVA faced in Annapolis, not some mediocre 6-6 football team.

They've been talking on their board that Nanticoke wanted to follow ...
in the Thompson's footsteps. Apparently Marr has been able to create a very welcoming atmosphere at Albany and Six Nations folks are taking advantage of it. They are concerned about where Staats will go. They think they may have a leg up because of the family ties.

I mean, it was 10 degrees for Navy, too. That said, Navy is tough to deal
with.

They play hard, they play fast, and they play a good system.

In my mind, there is no shame in losing to them. Getting smoked isn't pretty, but I STILL consider last season a success (and I'm probably on of the more anti-bronco guys on this board).

Getting punched in the face in tough conditions by the team probably most equipped in the country to deal with tough conditions happens.

Tony is a nice guy and a very good recruiter but
as you are well aware, that incredible facility, the draw of getting wildcards to Futures and Challenger events and WF's "creative tuition assistance" go a long way in attracting high level talent. I do not think he would be quite as effective at State.

Park at U-Hall lot unless have a pass, use the golf cart shuttle from the
road entrance to the track facility (also leads to the upper and lower baseball restricted lots) to the main entrance in RF, then use the elevator if needed to the concourse level. Also, a lot of U-Hall spaces open up around 3:30 and shortly thereafter when the hospital workers and maintenance workers get off and come back by bus to their cars. Also, day students parking there tend to leave about that time also.
