Cavs Show High Interest In NC LB/RB

Tristan Mumford is one of Statesville High School’s (N.C.) most versatile performers. The 6’1.5″, 230-pound prospect is expected to play linebacker, running back, tight end, and even some quarterback as a senior in 2012. Mumford, a junior, has produced no matter where he lines up. Last season, he played well when called upon to replace star signal caller Carlis Parker , who went down with an injury early in the year.

“Everybody that has talked with him, they understand he is a versatile kid,” Statesville head coach Randall Gusler said. “He plays linebacker, running back, and he did a heck of a job at quarterback for us when Carlis was hurt. He’s a versatile kid. He’s definitely an athlete.”

“It’s a blessing that coach has a lot of trust in me to take over the team,” Mumford said.

Just like his Statesville classmate Parker, Mumford is a major college recruit. North Carolina State is the most recent school to offer, and East Carolina, Purdue and Wake Forest have offered as well. North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech headline the schools showing serious interest in the talented junior.
