Report: Mykhailiuk Plans KU, UVa Visits

According to Kansas 247Sports website The Shiver, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, a 6’6” shooting guard out of Ukraine, is planning to take an official visit to Kansas this weekend. The same report indicated that the class of 2014 recruit is also planning to visit UVa.

If Mykhailiuk does visit Charlottesville, the exact date is unclear. A Dead Period begins May 22 and lasts through May 30, and during this time coaches are not allowed any face-to-face contact with recruits and/or family members. An early week trip is possible if Mykhailiuk does make his way on Grounds next week.

Mykhailiuk is no sure bet to attend college, as he is seriously considering playing professionally overseas. If he does choose the US college route, though, he is considered by many to be a top recruit. NBADraft.net calls the Ukrainian standout the “best prospect in Europe in a long time, probably since Ricky Rubio.” (Click here to view his full profile on NBADraft.net.)

UVa currently has four players in its class of 2014 – center Jack Salt, small forward Marial Shayok, shooting guard/small forward B.J. Stith and forward Isaiah Wilkins. Salt is expected to enroll in the first summer session of 2014, which begins on May 19.

  1. Really hope Mykhailiuk chooses UVA. It may seem better to take the money and play Euro ball for 2 or more seasons, but those contracts are hard to get out of and if he really wants to play in the NBA whenever he’s eligible collage seems to be the logical choice. Plus, by coming to UVA he’ll have an immediate fanbase and an opportunity to go to a world class school for a few years.
