Jameel Sewell continues to star in the Indoor Football League.

Sewell won the IFL Most Valuable Player Award last season while playing quarterback for the Nebraska Danger. Sewell passed for 2,531 yards with 52 touchdowns and rushed for 654 yards and 25 touchdowns to set new team records en route to the MVP honor.

After missing time earlier this season with an injury, Sewell has returned to the Danger line-up to lead a five-game winning streak. He has 29 touchdowns (13 rushing, 16 passing) and just one interception. Sewell was the IFL Player of the Week last week (Read more here.)

Football APR in the ACC

Our sister site Inside The ACC took a look at the NCAA’s APR (Academic Progress Rate) scores across the conference. Virginia falls in the middle of the pack in both the 5-year average and 9-year average for APR scores. Click here for the article.

Of note, UVa’s scores have improved dramatically under Mike London for the data currently available. The three years prior to London’s arrival showed scores of 937-947-947. In his first season, that trend held at 944. However, the next two years (2011-12 and 2012-13) jumped to 959-956. Those two years are both ahead of the 5-year average (951) and the 9-year average (949).

Jalbert Headed to Hall

The US Lacrosse Hall of Fame announced its 2014 class and former Virginia standout Jay Jalbert earned a spot. Jalbert will be inducted in October when he becomes the 12th Cavalier to enter the Hall of Fame.

“This is sincerely the greatest honor I could imagine,” Jalbert said in a news release. “Taking a look at the list of inductees and I am awfully proud to be amongst them. Lacrosse was and is such a great part of my life and I am just very thankful I had the opportunity to play the game.”

Jalbert earned first-team All-American honors in 1999 and 2000. The Hoos won the NCAA Championship in 1999. He scored 112 goals in his career (12th all time at UVa). Jalbert received recognition on the ACC’s 50th Anniversary Team in 2003 too. Read the full release here.

Monday’s “Afternoon Break” included a video made by Jalbert, who ESPN tabbed to produce its opening video for this month’s NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships. Check out Monday’s Break article here to see that video.
