Reuter Makes It Official, Signs With Hoos

As expected, Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, N.H.) power forward Jarred Reuter has signed an official letter of intent with the University of Virginia. Virginiasports.com announced the 6’8″, 245-pound senior’s signing today, the first day of the Early Signing Period for Division 1 men’s basketball.

Reuter, who averaged 13 points and nine rebounds per game last season as a junior for National Prep Champion Brewster, is rated as follows by ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals and Scout…

ESPN: 4-star, no. 26 center nationally
Scout: 3-star, no. 29 center nationally
Rivals: 3-star, no. 140 overall nationally
247Sports: 3-star, no. 152 overall nationally, no. 40 power forward nationally

Here are some more notes on UVa’s newest recruit…

– Reuter’s high school career began at St. Mark’s School (Southborough, MA). He missed his entire freshman season due to a foot injury. He subsequently transferred to Tabor Academy (Marion, MA), where he repeated his freshman year. Reuter stayed at Tabor for two years before transferring to Brewster Academy.

– Reuter earned NEPSAC Class A Player of the Year honors his sophomore year – the 2012/2013 season – at Tabor Academy. That year, he averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds per game.

– Reuter ultimately chose UVa over Iowa, Providence, Rhode Island and South Carolina. All five schools offered scholarships.

– Virginia offered Reuter on July 28, 2014. He made an official visit to UVa just a few days later and committed on August 2, 2014.

“The coaches. I like the coaches everywhere, but I really like all the coaches at UVa. They just seemed real genuine and laid back. They weren’t forceful. Also, in Coach Bennett’s style of play I think I can thrive. I’ve had people tell me for a while now that Virginia would be a good fit for me. I watched them this year and became a fan of the style of play,” Reuter said when asked what separated UVa from other schools.

Reuter added: “The campus and all the facilities were unreal. From an academics standpoint it speaks for itself. Beyond basketball, it’s a great place.”

Quote from UVa head coach Tony Bennett on VirginiaSports.com

“We are excited to welcome Jarred into the Virginia men’s basketball family,” Bennett said. “Jarred is tough, physical and plays with a lot of intensity. He is a gifted passer who plays with great feel for an inside player. Jarred will also value the degree he will earn from the University of Virginia.”

Quote from Brewster Academy head coach Jason Smith

“Coach Bennett was at Brewster Academy to see Devonte Graham (a class of 2014 point guard who eventually committed to Kansas). He noticed Jarred then. He saw how physical he plays,” Smith said.

“What stands out about Jarred is how physical he is. He thrives on contact. He is about 245 pounds, and he has no qualms about throwing his weight around. Jarred is very aggressive. Even though he plays physical, he is an excellent passer for his size. You watch his highlights and he’s not flying around and dunking on people, but he’s physical and aggressive. His basketball IQ and strength separate him from some others.”
