Despite a current season record of 2-5, Virginia football coach Mike London and the team continue to display positive mindsets about the rest of the season and what they believe they are capable of achieving. The Hoos expressed that they are holding their heads high and view the rest of their season with hopeful anticipation for each game to come.

London showed this mentality during Monday’s media meeting when he said, “there are still opportunities out there that this team can achieve. There are still games to be played. There are still games to be won.” He explained that the team is in tune to what needs to be done to achieve success and that this spreads from individual performance to execution of plays to smart coaching as well.

London reiterated the importance of staying focused on one game at a time.

“This one game is the next most important game for us because it’s a Coastal Conference game,” London said. “It’s a chance to go 2-2 in our conference play.”

Linebacker Zach Bradshaw said the team is “still looking forward and staying positive, while senior captain Vincent Croce expanded on that theme.

“We watched the film,” Croce said. “We know the corrections we need to make … we know we’re capable players.” He raised a keen observation that “2 and 5 is easy to lay down,” but said, “I don’t think anyone sees it this way.”

The next opportunity to reverse this season’s fortunes comes on Saturday when Georgia Tech comes to Scott Stadium. That game kicks off at 3 p.m. GT is fresh off a last-second victory against previously unbeaten Florida State. The Hoos are 1-1 at home against the Yellow Jackets during London’s tenure, a 24-21 win in 2011 and a 35-25 loss in 2013. Tech won last season’s meeting in Atlanta, 35-10.

“There are so many things that are still on the table there for us,” London said. “We’re going to have to, like I said, play our best, coach our best to achieve those things, but it’s nonetheless achievable.”
