Top Punter Prospect Nash Griffin Will Attend UVA

Lawrence Central (Indianapolis, IN) senior punter Nash Griffin received scholarship offers from Army, Buffalo, Navy and Old Dominion. He also considered preferred walk-on opportunities with Michigan and Northwestern, but in the end the 6’3″, 205-pound prospect opted to accept a preferred walk-on spot with the University of Virginia.

Griffin handled punting and place-kicking duties his senior season, earning Central Indiana All-USA honors as a punter and AP Class 6A all-state honors as a place-kicker. Kohl’s Kicking ranks the future Cavalier a 5-star prospect and the no. 14 punter in the nation in the class of 2016.

Griffin showed marked improvement in his leg swing and power in punting. He is improving his swing and seeing good results. His FG’s and KO are clean with good tempo but improving the explosiveness and timing behind his contact will help improve his current ability. Griffin has the look of a college punter and should draw a lot of college interest. He won the Midwest Showcase punt competition in Spring of 2015 and had a solid Scholarship Camp in July of 2015. – “Kohl’s Comments” on Griffin.

Honorable mention all-ACC punter Nicholas Conte is expected to return to Virginia in the 2016 season. He’ll be a senior, however, leaving an opportunity for a new starter in 2017.

A multi-sport athlete at Lawrence Central, Griffin also plays for the Bears’ varsity basketball squad, which includes Virginia recruit and McDonald’s All-American Kyle Guy. Guy was obviously pleased with Griffin’s decision.
