Virginia Basketball Recruiting Notes: Brooks To Narrow List

Basketball recruiting season is in full swing with prospects making visits and decisions, offers continuing to go out, and the July evaluation season almost upon us. Here is some recent news on the Virginia men’s basketball recruiting front.

Brooks Narrowing His List

Via Twitter, Garfield (Seattle, WA) class of 2018 post JRaan Brooks announced that he will narrow his list of schools to five this week.

Brooks, a 6’8”, 215-pound prospect, said in our EDGE report from last week’s NBPA Top 100 Camp that he has scheduled official visits to USC (Sept. 2) and Stanford (Sept. 30), adding that he “for sure” also wanted to take an official to UVA in September. Certainly, look for those three schools in his top five.

California, Washington and Washington State are among the other West coast schools that have offered Brooks, who boasts an offer from Oklahoma as well. Notre Dame and Texas have expressed serious interest.

Cavalier Backcourt Target Locke Receives New Offer

University of Virginia shooting guard target Noah Locke is busy making some college visits, the most recent of which yielded a new scholarship offer. Locke, a product of McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland, scored an offer from head coach John Beilein while visiting the University of Michigan on June 20.

Michigan joins Florida, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Providence, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Xavier, among others, in having offered the 6’2”, 180-pound rising senior.

Locke reportedly visited Notre Dame unofficially on June 19 before making his way to Ann Arbor. He is expected to visit Pittsburgh June 21. As for UVA, Locke plans to be in Charlottesville for an unofficial on June 30.

More Visitor News

– UVA class of 2018 wing target John Newman is currently on an official visit at Clemson. The 6’5” prospect out of Greensboro Day (Greensboro, N.C.) has taken an official to Wake Forest already and has reportedly also scheduled an official to Providence. Newman reportedly took an unofficial visit to UVA prior to the NBPA Top 100 Camp.

Newman has made multiple unofficial visits to Clemson prior to this official trip.

– Per UVA recruiting news source Hooz Got Next on Twitter, the Hoos will host a handful of Team Loaded VA prospects this Friday, June 23. All except for Reid are listed as playing for Team Loaded 15U on the 2017 Adidas Gauntlet series.

– According to multiple reports, Virginia will host class of 2019 guard Deuce Dean on a visit this Saturday, June 24. Dean, who previously attended Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.) but is headed to York Prep (S.C.) this coming year, is a 6’4” guard who boasts offers from Kansas State and Virginia Tech at this early stage of recruiting.

Dean reportedly averaged 8.8 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Dutch Fork last season.

Peach State Rising Senior Guard On UVA’s Radar

Virginia is expressing some interest in Will Richardson, a 6’4” point guard out of Liberty County in Midway, Georgia.

Richardson, a class of 2018 prospect, boasts offers from Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ohio State (from the new coach), Oklahoma State, Tennessee and Texas A&M, among others. He has helped E1T1 United to a 12-4 record so far on the 2017 Nike EYBL circuit, averaging 12.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.8 turnovers and 1.1 steals per game.
