Virginia Basketball Offers Louisiana Guard Jared Butler

Riverside Academy (Reserve, LA) combo guard Jared Butler is the latest class of 2018 prospect to claim an offer from the University of Virginia.

Butler, who measures in around 6’2”, 175 pounds, has received scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Purdue, Southern Cal and UVA within the past week. Alabama, Houston, Minnesota, Texas and Wichita State are among the schools that offered previously.

Playing for the Mississippi Express AAU program, Butler averaged 13.6 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game in 16 games on the 2017 Nike EYBL circuit. Cavalier head coach Tony Bennett watched Butler and the MEBO Elite this past Saturday at the Super 6 event in Atlanta, Georgia.

Both ESPN (No. 94) and Scout (No. 94) have Butler rated among the top 100 prospects in the nation in the class of 2018. As a junior he earned a spot on the 2016/2017 Times-Picayune All-Metro Boys Basketball Team.

One of the area’s top overall athletes, Butler could take over games at times, especially with a hot shooting touch. In one particular game, even though the Rebels fell short, his team trailed Country Day, 20-4, at the end of the first quarter. But Butler scored 17 in the second quarter to get his Rebels into a halftime tie. Those are the sorts of spurts that have us looking forward to him being able to put it all together and being a Player of the Year candidate in 2017-18. — excerpt from the 2017 All-Metro announcement on NOLA.com.
