For most of the 2013 season, Virginia’s receivers had struggled to provide production in the passing game. Entering Saturday’s home game with Georgia Tech, the UVa receivers had tallied 54 catches and 582 yards receiving for the entire season. That averages out to 7.7 receptions and 83.1 yards per game from the unit.

Senior Tim Smith and junior Darius Jennings snapped the group out of its collective funk with a big game against the Yellow Jackets. Jennings grabbed 13 passes for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Smith hauled in 10 catches for 151 yards. Both playes nearly doubled their previous season totals for both catches and yards. Jennings entered the game with 15 catches and 128 yards, while Smith had 13 grabs for 199 yards before the GT game.

Virginia quarterback David Watford said after teh game that it was a break-out performance for the wideouts.

“I didn’t feel like I was on today. I feel like our receivers made big plays for me. I missed some throws I should have made, but my receivers made me look good. When you have a receiving corps like ours, you are waiting for them to break out. Today was that game,” Watford said. “This is just going to give them more confidence. I just have to put the ball in an area where they can catch it and they will go make plays.”
