True freshman receiver Keeon Johnson turned in his best performance as a Virginia Cavalier on Saturday against Clemson. Johnson hauled in 5 catches for 77 yards during the disappointing 59-10 loss to the Tigers.
“I am more comfortable now than my first appearance,” Johnson said. “I study a lot more. Coming from high school to college, that’s one thing I have to do more to make sure that every play is right. I write out every play we practice at night to make sure I know them, kind of like homework.”
UVa quarterbacks David Watford and Greyson Lambert targeted Johnson with 10 passes on the afternoon. Of Johnson’s 5 catches, 4 produced first downs. All of his catches posted more than 10 yards to the stat sheet – 11, 18, 10, 17, and 21 yards.
Johnson also had one pass ruled incomplete and upheld by video replay in the third quarter, but he said there was “no doubt” that he caught the ball. “I know I caught the ball. I had my hands under it and everything so I was kind of confused when they said it was incomplete,” Johnson said.
