Things I Learned 2013: Miami

I am sorry I have not been around for the last couple of weeks. I knew before the season that it was likely I was not going to be able to analyze the Clemson and UNC games, though I had hoped that things might break right so that I could pull it off. But when it gets right down to it, has anything broken right this football season? Did anything break right against Miami? Not much.

A Game Thing

The BYU game was fun, wasn’t it? That was this season, wasn’t it? Can I just write about that?

Actually, that is entirely unfair. There certainly are things I could write about from the Miami game. Some good things even. I could write about Kevin Parks (in fact, I will below). I could write about the fact that Taquan Mizzell had a game he really could build on in a big way. I could write about Anthony Harris pulling in yet another interception. I could write about how Tim Smith bounced back from a dropped pass with a great punt return the next time he touched the ball.

But I also could write about the turnovers. And the breakdowns. And the Miami defensive touchdowns. And the fact that UVa performed this way after a bye week. And a tough call that will have Anthony Harris on the sidelines for the first half of the game next week. And how mindboggling it is to have that kind of advantage in the running game and lose. And the lack of a consistent pass rush in a defense based on consistent pressure. And how, if your defense doesn’t get off the field on third down, bad things happen. Like 62-yard touchdown bad things.
