Brogdon’s Rust

Virginia redshirt sophomore Malcolm Brogdon sat out last season to rehabilitate after foot surgery. When the 2013-2014 season tipped off in early November, it had been nearly 2 years between games for the Georgia native. Yet, he’s opened this season with the same knack for scoring (10.8 points per game) and he’s still stuffing the stat sheet as expected too (4.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.4 steals). Brogdon is shooting better than 50% from the floor at 50.8%, a number hurt by a 1 of 7 night against SMU.

So where’s the rust from such a long lay-off? Brogdon said he still feels it in certain areas and there are times when watching him closely that he seems to slip out of rhythm just a bit.

“I was. I was expecting rust,” said Brogdon, who credited strength coach Mike Curtis and unselfish teammates for helping him find a flow so quickly after the injury. “I feel like I have had rust. I feel like some of my turnovers still are rust turnovers. I’m trying to shake it off and keep playing well.”
