Late in Monday night’s game with North Carolina, the Virginia men’s basketball team ran a delay game with a big lead and called a substitution timeout to get in the walk-ons. Yes, it has been that kind of conference start for the Hoos, who are 5-1 in ACC play. The Double Bonus dives into the win over the Tar Heels.

From The Corner

One area that the Hoos found frequent success Monday night? The corners. The Cavaliers hit six of their eight total 3-pointers from spots in front of the sidelines.

Joe Harris got the parade started with a pair of triples in opposite corners to start the game (and then he hit his third trey of the night from just in front of the blue floor logo – that’s a crazy long shot and I just felt like it needed to be mentioned even though it wasn’t in the corner!). Later in the first half, Evan Nolte joined the fun when he ran a baseline cut off of Darion Atkins posting up on the block and then canned the shot in the corner. At the end of the first half, Harris took a backdoor pass along the baseline, drew the defense, and found London Perrantes spotting up in the left corner. Perrantes nailed the 3-pointer for a 38-29 halftime lead.

In the second half, Malcolm Brogdon connected from both sides of the floor for 6 points. Not to be outdone, Justin Anderson drew a foul shooting in front of UVa’s bench and proceeded to make all three free throws. All told, that’s 21 points from the long-ball attempts in the corners. Those six triples also outdistanced UNC’s entire production from 3-point range as the Heels made just 4 of 15 shots from downtown.
