Notre Dame battled Virginia to a 43-43 tie midway through the second half Saturday. Then UVa erupted on a 25-0 run and won easily. The explosion was so impressive it may have earned the Hoos a cameo in the next “Pompeii” trailer. Seriously, the Cavaliers have won 11 straight games and are lava hot. I know, I know. On to the Double Bonus.

The offensive outburst to put away the Irish started on the interior. As I wrote in my game recap, the Wahoos fed either Anthony Gill or Akil Mitchell on the seven possessions following Notre Dame’s basket to make it 41-38.

Near the 13:37 mark of the second half, Virginia went to its base offense. Anthony Gill set a baseline screen for Malcolm Brogdon, who received the pass on the left wing. Gill ducked into the post, showed patience waiting for space to clear, and then attacked to earn a trip to the free throw line. He made 1 of 2 free throws.
