Tobey’s Impact

Virginia sophomore center Mike Tobey has had bigger nights statistically, but it sure looked like he took a giant step forward against Syracuse. Tobey logged 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 steal in 23 minutes. He made 5 of 9 shots, including several buckets off of 5 offensive rebounds. Tobey made a high post jumper and threw down a two-handed dunk on the interior when Malcolm Brogdon spotted him down low.

There was a notable toughness to Tobey’s game Saturday too. Several of those rebounds were in heavy traffic as he out-muscled people for the ball. On one defensive rebound early in the game, Tobey cleared off the defender with a monster forearm and finished off the play.

“They’re a really good team obviously so I needed to go in there and rebound strong. I did a better job with that today,” Tobey said. “Offensive glass. We knew that was a big key to our success on offense. We did that well.”
