“That’s a good problem to have.”

That was the assessment of assistant coach Larry Lewis when asked about dividing up carries for the Virginia running backs in 2014. Indeed, trying to figure out the best way to use Kevin Parks, Khalek Shepherd, Taquan Mizzell, and company is one of the least worrisome questions entering the season at UVa. The Cavaliers, after all, are trying to turn around a 2-10 record from a year ago so having multiple experienced and talented running backs available provides a good building block for an offense with other questions to answer.

The power and consistency of Parks, the versatility of Shepherd, and the open field ability of Mizzell all could be beneficial to the Hoos if utilized correctly.

“That’s a good question. How do you? You’ve got three pretty good backs right there. You’ve got two seniors with Kevin and Khalek, and you add Smoke to that list. To me, that’s a good problem to have,” Lewis said. “The good thing about it is that I think we can save their legs and not really wear one guy out so that we can make it through a season and keep all of them healthy. There’s a role that they all can play and they can all help us win. As a staff offensively, we’re going to be creative how we use them and to get them on the field because they all can make plays for us.”
