Virginia fans hope that Greyson Lambert is the answer.

After all, the quarterback position at UVa has become a revolving door position over the past eight years. From 2006 through 2013, nine players have tried to hold down the spot. Christian Olsen, Kevin McCabe, Jameel Sewell, Peter Lalich, Marc Verica, Vic Hall, Michael Rocco, Phillip Sims, and David Watford all got chances. Only Rocco started the first game of the season in back-to-back years.

When UCLA comes to Charlottesville on August 30 for a noon kickoff, Lambert is expected to be the latest starter in the orange and blue. Whether he becomes just another footnote in Hoo history or a much more important trivia answer on 2025 barstools remains to be seen. But make no mistake, Virginia fans hope Greyson Lambert is the answer.

That hope is as much about resetting the cycle, setting up future development, and stopping the uncertainty of the position as anything else. A Tim Sherman-Dan Ellis level of success would do the program good right now with the cadre of contenders listed above as the prologue. Sherman led the Hoos to a 7-5 record and a bowl bid as the 1996 starter, while Ellis helped the team reach two bowl games in 1999 and 2000 with 3,974 career passing yards. Ellis finished eighth nationally in passing efficiency as a junior in 1999 in his first season as the starter.
