Sitting in the interview room at Scott Stadium, Canaan Severin pointed to a two-inch scar on his left hand.
“I broke my hand. There’s a plate in here. And seven screws,” Severin said. “I had a knee, a scope in my knee. My hand was probably the toughest one, though. Being a receiver, I remember when I first broke it, right when I had surgery, I thought I’d never be able to catch again. I couldn’t even move my hand.”
With that plate still in his hand, no one could blame Severin for grinning ear to ear after Saturday’s 45-13 win against Richmond. The junior receiver waited a long time for day like this in his college career. He caught two touchdown passes in the victory, the first two of his career.
“It’s been a long time coming. I’ve been waiting for that,” Severin said. “Ever since I committed on Sept. 18, 2011, I’ve been waiting to score a touchdown here at Scott Stadium so it feels good to finally have it.”
