The Sampler 2014 … Duke

Mike London’s team lost to Duke again. ~ Mike Ingalls

After the season-opening loss to UCLA, a narrow 28-20 score, I asked a simple question.

Looking for signs of improvement? There was evidence of that. Looking for signs of concern? There was plenty of that too. So should Cavalier fans be encouraged or frustrated? That article drew a mixed bag of responses. Fans fell on both sides of the fence.

With the season past its halfway point and Virginia sitting on a 4-3 record, Saturday’s Duke game presents the opportunity to revisit that question. The 20-13 setback has been characterized as anything from a blip on the radar to a lost opportunity to a harbinger for a season-ending spiral. So how about you – did the Duke game leave you feeling encouraged or frustrated about the rest of the season?

I believe the scales tipped dramatically toward the latter. The loss not only rattled UVa fans, it dug up some of the lingering concerns about the Mike London era. Offensive and red zone production? Check. Quarterback questions? Check. (Though, a thread on the EDGE board suggest fans aren’t as divided on this as you might think – most seem to think a healthy Greyson Lambert would be a big boost to the team.) Clock management concerns? Check. Critical lapses in evenly matched, or 50-50, games? Check.
