Prior to Saturday evening, Virginia had lost four games this season by one score. For the first time all year, the Hoos were simply dominated in all three phases of the game in a 35-10 drubbing at the hands of Georgia Tech.

In its wins this season, the importance of details mattered – doing the little things really well and not committing no-talent mistakes kept the Hoos on track. In losses, it’s usually been the offense or special teams that were making the little mistakes: not fielding an onside kick, a crucial penalty, not holding a block for that extra second, missing a cut-back alley, or dropping a pass. In Atlanta, all three phases missed the little things and lacked the discipline needed to succeed.

This was likely Virginia’s final wake-up call.
