Catching Up With Five Newcomers

Virginia’s men’s basketball program welcomed five newcomers to the program this summer, including four incoming first years – Jack Salt, Marial Shayok, B.J. Stith, and Isaiah Wilkins – plus Darius Thompson, a combo guard who transferred from the University of Tennessee. TheSabre.com caught up with all five players at this year’s Media Day, which took place on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

JACK SALT, Center, Westlake (Auckland, New Zealand)

Tony Bennett has recruited New Zealand in previous stops at Wisconsin and Washington State, but 6’11” center Jack Salt becomes the first Kiwi to sign with Bennett as UVa’s head coach. Salt attended Westlake School in Auckland, New Zealand, and also has experience playing in the Australian National Basketball League and the New Zealand National Basketball League, for the New Zealand Tall Blacks National Team, and for the New Zealand Under-20 National Team.
