GREENSBORO, N.C. – If the end of UVa’s loss to North Carolina in the ACC Tournament Semifinals is any indication, the Cavaliers have crunch time lineup options.

The Hoos went with a little smaller look late Friday night. With Justin Anderson back in the fold, the Cavaliers went with a quintet of Anderson, Malcolm Brogdon, Darion Atkins, London Perrantes, and Evan Nolte down the stretch. Surely that can change significantly based on game situations in the future, but that lineup opened up some interesting possibilities for the Wahoos. For starters, Nolte’s presence forced the Tar Heels to contend with another ball-handler.

It also gave the Cavaliers another option on the perimeter, making four different players a threat from beyond the arc. That’s a difficult lineup to manage against, and it clearly made things tough on North Carolina as Virginia rallied and eventually had a couple of chances to take the lead.

“He can stretch it a little more,” UVa coach Tony Bennett said. “He’s more mobile, can get some catches, and we try to trap the post if they exploit him down low. But we thought maybe in the stretch [he’d] hit a three or even a little ball-handling out there would open it up for some drives from Malcolm, which kind of did start happening.”
