After winning back-to-back home games, Virginia hit the road in search of its ACC win away from Charlottesville on Tuesday. While the 72-71 victory at Wake Forest didn’t follow a typical winning formula – UVA erased a seven-point deficit in the final 20 seconds – it did get the Hoos a much-needed road win. The Double Bonus is back with a look at the game with the Demon Deacons.

Senior Power

Virginia, obviously, has relied heavily on a pair of seniors this season with fifth-year stars Malcolm Brogdon and Anthony Gill bringing a fierce combination of talent, experience, and toughness to the table. That was true again at Wake Forest. Brogdon poured in 28 points to match a career high while making 10 of 16 shots. He threw in 7 rebounds and 3 steals for good measure. Gill, meanwhile, added 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go with 2 blocked shots. For the game, the duo combined to make 17 of 28 shot attempts (60.7%).

This marked the 19th time that 20 games that both players hit double figures in the scoring column with only the lopsided season-opening win against Morgan State missing on the list. It was the eighth time that each player cracked 15 points in the same game as well (George Mason, William & Mary, Villanova, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Miami, Syracuse, and Wake Forest).

Brogdon has reached the 20-point barrier 10 times this season, including four times in the last five games. The last Wahoo to do that was Mike Scott in 2011-12 when he had 11 20+ games. Gill has scored at least 10 points in every game this season and is on a 23-game streak for double-digit scoring. Sean Singletary is the last Hoo with that sort of run. He scored in double figures for his final 55 games as a Cavalier.
