Athlon Sports is filling up the last few days of July – and the last few days before college football practice begins by extension – with positional rankings for 2016. The running backs took center stage Wednesday when writer Mike Bainbridge put out his top 50. You’ll find Taquan Mizzell at No. 36 on the list.

The formula used to get the rankings is based on fantasy football scoring:

  • Passing Yards, 25 yards = 1 point
  • Passing TD = 4 points
  • Rushing Yards, 10 yards = 1 point
  • Rushing TDs = 6 points
  • Receptions = 0.5 points per reception
  • Receiving Yards, 10 yards = 1 point
  • Receiving TDs = 6 points

For Mizzell’s 2015 season, that comes out like this:

  • Passing Yards: 0 = 0 points
  • Passing TD: 0 = 0 points
  • Rushing Yards: 671 yards = 67.1 points
  • Rushing TDs: 4 = 24 points
  • Receptions: 75 = 37.5 points
  • Receiving Yards: 721 yards = 72.1 points
  • Receiving TDs: 4 = 24 points
  • Total: 224.7 points

That’s a solid season for Mizzell, but those aren’t eye-popping numbers like those of Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey at No. 1, UNC’s Elijah Hood at No. 4, and FSU’s Dalvin Cook at No. 5. Still, Mizzell’s work earned him third-team All-ACC honors and set a new ACC record for receiving yards in a season by a running back.
