The season for the Virginia basketball team came to unexpected early end as the ACC and NCAA collectively cancelled postseason play due to the coronavirus outbreak. As a result, the Cavaliers ended the season on an eight-game winning streak and finished it off with a 57-54 Senior Day win at the John Paul Jones Arena.

The Hoos posted a 23-7 record and were a lock for a spot in the NCAA Tournament, which would have extended that run to seven straight tourney bids. They also recorded a 15-5 mark in ACC play to lock up what would have been a double bye in the ACC Tournament once again.

10. How does starting with a conference game change things?

Thanks to the launch of the ACC Network, the conference and ESPN put together a season-opening slate of games between league opponents. That sent UVA to Syracuse for the first game of the season, which meant the Hoos had to figure out Jim Boeheim’s always morphing 2-3 zone. The final score worked out OK with the Hoos winning 48-34. A little more than a month later, Virginia got to 2-0 in ACC play with a home win against North Carolina.
