Virginia Football Rewind: Duke

The Virginia football team secured a 28-21 win in its ACC opener after fending off a last-gasp drive from Duke in the final minutes. The fact that the defense secured the victory seemed fitting on a day where the Cavaliers held the Blue Devils in check throughout the game.

Duke managed only 255 yards of offense on 74 plays, a low 3.4 yards per play average. The visitors picked up just 124 yards through the air as quarterback Daniel Jones completed 14 of 42 passes with one touchdown and two interceptions. The Devils gained 20 yards or more on only four of their 16 possessions and created just one sustained touchdown drive, a 15-play 88-yarder in the second quarter. The rest of their points came on an interception return and a short field thanks to a kickoff return.

The Duke Rewind looks at a couple of big moments for the defense as well as one of Kurt Benkert’s touchdown passes.
