The Virginia baseball program announced that its inaugural Virginia Baseball Hall of Fame class at will be honored at the 2018 Step Up to the Plate event scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at 6 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Virginia Baseball Hall of Fame will be honored annually at the event and will have a prominent spot at Davenport Field where renovations are underway. Ticket information for the 2018 Step Up to the Plate event can be found at this link.

“We’re very excited to be able to recognize a proud tradition of over 100 years of baseball here at Virginia,” UVA coach Brian O’Connor said in a news release. “Coupling our season kickoff event with recognition of our program’s most influential players, coaches and supporters is a win-win.”

One player that could be in the inaugural group is Eppa Rixey, the only ACC player in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. In an MLB career split by World War I, Rixey posted a 3.15 ERA and struck out 1,350 batters. He held the left-handed pitcher’s record for most career wins (266) until 1959.
