Another Big Official Visit Weekend Has Begun For Virginia Football

The third big official visit weekend of June is underway for the University of Virginia football program, which boasts seven verbal commitments in the class of 2022. There is a good chance the Hoos add to that total from this weekend’s group, which includes a mix of linemen and skill position players.

OFFICIAL VISITORS: JUNE 18-20

Austin Ausberry, CB, University Lab (Baton Rouge, LA) (Visiting UVA this weekend per 247Sports and Rivals)

The 6’1”, 185-pound rising senior would give the Hoos a potential shutdown cornerback in the class. There is plenty of competition, though, including Alabama and Notre Dame, who offered the 4-star prospect earlier this month. Arizona State, Houston, Louisiana-Monroe, LSU, Louisville, Mississippi State, Purdue, Tulane and Virginia offered previously.

Ausberry attends the same school that produced UVA third-year running back Mike Hollins.

Drew Bobo, OL, Auburn (AL)

The 6’5”, 290-pound offensive line prospect is the son of new Auburn offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. Drew took an official visit to Georgia Tech last weekend and is scheduled to visit Kentucky next weekend. Other offers include Auburn, Georgia, Oregon and West Virginia.

Brandon Cleveland, DL, Carrollwood Day (Tampa, FL)

The 6’3”, 260-pound rising senior was committed to Miami, but on March 30 he announced he was reopening his recruitment. NC State, where Cleveland visited last weekend, is now the favorite according to 247Sports experts. UVA was able to sway a visit, though, just one week after extending a scholarship offer.

Austin Firestone, OL, Niceville (FL) (Visit reported by 247Sports and Rivals)

Firestone, a 6’5”, 265-pound prospect, has been offered by UVA as an offensive lineman but has offers from others, including Northwestern and Vanderbilt, as a defensive lineman. He took an official to Northwestern earlier this month, calling the visit “on point.”

Dominique McKenzie and Marcus McKenzie, WR and DB, Pine View (St. George, UT)

The McKenzie brothers reportedly will be in Charlottesville this weekend for official visits. The previous two weekends the talented duo traveled to Pittsburgh and Arizona for officials.

Dominique is a wide receiver prospect while Marcus is being recruited as a defensive back. The speedy duo both measure out about 6’0”, 170 pounds. Their father, Brian, played running back at BYU in the late 1990s. This included one season alongside UVA Running Backs Coach Mark Atuaia. The Cougars have offered scholarships to Dominique and Marcus.

Brody Meadows, OL, Graham (Bluefield, VA)

According to 247Sports, Virginia is the heavy favorite to land the 6’6”, 280-pound rising senior, and it wouldn’t surprise to see his decision come this weekend. Arizona State, Purdue and West Virginia are among the other Power 5 schools that have offered the Graham star.

Carter Smith, OL, Olentangy Liberty (Powell, OH)

Virginia will be the fourth official visit destination of the month for the 6’5”, 260-pound Smith, who has traveled to Tennessee, Northwestern, and Indiana in the weeks prior. He kicked off June with a one-day camp at Ohio State, but as of yet the Buckeyes have not offered.

More Class Of 2022 Visitors This Week

DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) cornerback Zilan Williams and Bethlehem Catholic (Bethlehem, PA) offensive lineman Justin Kanyuk visited UVA earlier this week unofficially. Williams, a 6’2”, 175-pound rising senior, was offered by the Hoos in May and also boasts offers from Army, Connecticut and Purdue.

If Ausberry and Marcus McKenzie are any indication, UVA is trying to upgrade the speed at the cornerback position. Williams fits the bill, posting a sub 11-second 100 meters recently.

Kanyuk, a 6’6”, 310-pound offensive line prospect, learned of his Virginia offer while on Grounds this week. Virginia joins Maryland and North Carolina as Kanyuk’s three Power 5 offers. He has double-digit scholarship offers in total.
