Virginia ‘s offense, as expected, filled the stat sheet with another 500-plus yards and another 40-plus points, but the performance was far from perfect. Execution failure at critical times was key to UVA’s 66-49 loss.

As for the Cavalier defense, in the immortal words of late Arizona Cardinals head coach Denny Green, “They were who we thought they were.” When 12 of your opponent’s 15 drives end in your end of the field, that’s a terribly bad evening. The last one was on BYU’s final drive where they took the victory formation at the Cavalier 16-yard line. I didn’t chart that one in the grades as a red zone stop since I considered it mercy.
