Spring Football Report: Is Stefan Orange Gone?

In his next to last teleconference of the spring practice session, Virginia head coach Al Groh discussed the rumor about Stefan Orange leaving the program, Marques Hagans’ fit in the 2003 offense, Keenan Carter ’s situation heading into the summer, and several other odds and ends. Groh also offered his thoughts on the fan festival that will take place before the actual football activities this Saturday at Virginia’s annual spring football festival.

Where is Stefan?

Rising sophomore Stefan Orange had been rumored to have left the Virginia football program, but coach Groh said that is not true and that Orange is “still a member of the program.” Groh did add, however, that Stefan had taken a temporary leave of absence during the spring camp, because there were personal issues that needed to be attended to. Orange, who was part of last season’s terrific freshman class, was set to work out at both safety and cornerback this season, but Groh was unable to get a feel on how he was progressing before he suddenly left. It is unknown when Stefan will be back, but Groh expected him to be back with the program at some point.

“He is still a member of our program,” Groh said. “But he is [on a temporary leave of absence]. He has some personal problems that he needs to get taken care of, and that is what he is doing right now.”
