5-11, 225-pound Duquesne (PA) tailback Shane Brooks is ready for the off-season. He’s ready not only to just workout hard to get stronger and faster for the next level, but, more importantly, to work hard on academics in order to qualify.

“I’m more focused on my grades now than I am recruiting,” Brooks said. He scored a 720 on his first SAT try but maintains a qualifying GPA. “I take the SAT again on Saturday. I don’t know what score I need to get, but I know I need to do a lot better. I’m going to try and get my grades up too.”

Of the schools that have offered the bruising tailback recruit, U-Conn, Pitt, Wisconsin and Akron have kept in weekly contact. He says he hasn’t heard from UVa in about 2 weeks but believes they are still recruiting him.

“They’re still recruiting me, but I think they want to wait until I get the next set of test scores,” Brooks said. “I spoke to Coach Rocco last time. He didn’t say anything about my [academic] situation. He was just seeing how I was doing and told me to keep working hard.”
