Appleby Talks UVa Visit

Salem (Virginia Beach, VA) jumbo athlete Antonio Appleby was one of a handful of verbal commitments in Charlottesville this past weekend on official visits. Appleby, who committed to UVa in June following his first-ever visit to the campus, talked about his experience.

“It was good,” Appleby said. “I had a really good time there. I enjoyed hanging with the other guys that have committed. It was good putting faces with the names. That was real fun. The players were really great. They were good guys to be around. It showed me that I did make the right choice.”

Appleby met with Head Coach Al Groh on Sunday before heading back home. Among the discussed topics was the possibility of early playing time.

“He said he was happy that I committed to them,” Appleby said. “He told me that, if I keep working hard, I could earn some playing time. He didn’t tell me when. I don’t want to red-shirt though. I don’t like the idea of sitting out for a year, but if that’s what the coaches think is best for me then of course I’ll do it.”
