UVa Commit Shines in Senior Season

This talented wide receiver caught 61 passes for a state record 1,375 yards. He had 19 touchdowns receiving, returned a punt for a touchdown, returned a kick-off for a touchdown and had one rushing touchdown. As a safety on defense, he made 5 interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. Who is he?

It’s Kevin Ogletree , the 6-1, 175-pound star for Holy Cross High School in St. Alban’s, New York. Ogletree, who committed to UVa in June of last year, may be one of the unsung prospects in this year’s recruiting class. He certainly wasn’t unsung for Holy Cross Head Coach Tom Pugh, who was quoted in the Long Island newspaper Newsday as saying that Ogletree is “probably the best player I’ve had in 32 years of coaching.”

“He was unbelievable for us this year,” Pugh said yesterday in an interview with TheSabre.com. “He was named player of the year by two big newspapers – Newsday and the Daily News. He was all everything. He was named MVP of the CHSFL Championship game. We won 33-27 and he had 3 touchdowns (one on an interception return).”

Ogletree enjoyed his great success despite seeing many double-teams from opposing defenses. And when he saw single coverage, he took advantage.
