UVa Eyes Gwynn Park Products

One of the surprise names on UVa’s official visit list last weekend was that of Rondre Smith , a 6-2, 225-pound linebacker prospect out of Gwynn Park High School in Brandywine, Maryland. According to Gwynn Park head coach Danny Hayes, UVa has been recruiting Smith for the past few months.

A senior at Gwynn Park, Smith will go to prep school in order to raise his academic standing.

“They’ve been recruiting him heavily,” Hayes said of UVa. “As far as I know, no offer has been made. But basically, that’s where he wants to go. He loved his visit up there and he loves the school and the coaches. That’s where he wants to be. They are helping to send him to Hargrave Military Academy first. He’s got to get his academics up.”

Smith transferred to Gwynn Park from Oxon Hill last spring. There was talk of him reclassifying as a junior for this year, but Hayes felt it would be best to stay as a senior and go to prep school if necessary.
