2006 Class: 5 Division 1-A Recruits from McDevitt?

Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, PA) has developed an excellent reputation for churning out Division 1-A prospects. In 2006, the program could outdo itself and produce at least five Division 1-A players according to head coach Jeff Weachter. In reviewing these talented recruits, let’s start in the offensive backfield, where coach Weachter has two of the top players in the country at their respective positions.

Running back LaSean McCoy , who rushed for 2,800 yards and 40 touchdowns this season, already has scholarship offers from many Division 1-A programs including Miami, Virginia, Michigan State, West Virginia, Maryland, N.C. State and many others. In seeing his 2004 statistics and listening to Weachter’s scouting report of the talented back, you can understand why.

“He’s 5-11, around 208 pounds,” Weachter said. “He ran the fastest 40 time at any of the Nike combines last year. It was a 4.25. He’s a 360 max bench. He has the total package. He has some size and strength and he obviously has the speed. He has very quick feet and makes quick cuts. And he has very good vision like a point guard in basketball, which the great backs usually have. He has very good hands and catches the ball well. So he’s really the total package.”

McCoy has sort of been going through the recruiting process since his sophomore year. Coach Weachter tries to take his recruits to many schools so, before their recruiting process really kicks into high gear, they have already been exposed to many schools. McCoy has been to several schools before, including UVa, and plans on attending more junior days this spring. He will be in attendance at UVa today and will go to Maryland next weekend.
