2006 Class: UVa Offers McNeil

Davie County (Mocksville, NC) cornerback recruit Raeshon McNeil has enjoyed two very successful junior day experiences…both of which took place on the same weekend. He left that weekend with two Division 1-A scholarship offers and should have a few more very soon.

“On a Saturday he visited UVa and he visited Duke on a Sunday,” Davie County head coach Doug Illing said. “UVa coaches saw a highlight tape and evaluated him before he arrived and once they saw him and got to meet him, they really liked him. They offered him a full scholarship. He had a great day visiting the campus, seeing a great basketball game, meeting all the coaches and seeing all the facilities. He had a tremendous time and was very impressed. He liked it a lot and did the same thing at Duke the following day. It’s two great opportunities education-wise and, athletically, Virginia is a top-notch football program in the nation that’s competing for an ACC championship over the last couple of years and has got a great tradition. I think he’s very impressed and overwhelmed by that.”

North Carolina and N.C. State have expressed interest, but neither has offered. Another in-state program is expected to offer tonight while an SEC power is also showing heavy interest.

“Wake Forest is very interested,” Illing said. “They’re going to have him up Wednesday for junior day and I’m told that they’re going to offer as well. They really like him. They saw him last year because they signed our tight end, so they got to meet him and everything. Virginia and Duke kind of beat them to the first punch, but they’re going to offer him too. He’s going to Tennessee next weekend and they’re very excited after watching the highlight tape, so they’re anticipating a lot of good things when they get to meet him too.”
