Linebacker is a key position of need in the 2006 recruiting class, and UVa has landed another commitment for that very position. This is the second verbal commitment for the ‘Hoos for 2006.

Rondre Smith , a 6-2, 225-pound recruit out of Gwynn Park High School in Brandywine, Maryland, has committed to the Cavs.

“He’s going to go to Virginia,” Gwynn Park head coach Danny Hayes said. “He’s committed to Virginia. That’s where he’s going to go. That’s where he wants to go and we’ve already talked on that.”

UVa had been seriously recruiting Smith, who is currently a senior, throughout the past four or five months. Smith actually made an official visit to UVa on the weekend of January 28th and loved the experience. The Cavaliers had not offered at the time, but it appears that they have recently indicated that an offer is on the table assuming all goes well at Hargrave Military Academy. Smith has some work to do academically, but is on the right track according to Hayes and has scored a 910 on the SAT.
